For a blizzard to form there must be 3 things:
- The air must be cold at the surface
- The atmosphere must have a lot moisture to form the clouds
- Warm air that is rising to create precipitation
What causes a blizzard?
A blizzard is caused when there is heavy snowfall, and winds that reach 35 mph or higher. A ground blizzard is a weather condition where snow is not falling but loose snow on the ground is lifted and blown by strong winds. Blizzards usually form when the jet stream pitches far south. This allows the cold northern air and warm southern air to collide creating a storm.
